Womens and Men Artistic Gymnastics
We provide a wide range of Artistic (MAG & WAG) classes – recreational programmes, steps program, levels program and elite program. Men’s Artistic Gymnastics (MAG) is an exciting Olympic sport which involves six different apparatus; floor, pommel, rings, vault, parallel bars and horizontal bar while Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) is a very elegant and beautiful Olympic sport which involves four apparatus; vault, Uneven Bars, Beam, Floor.
We also offer Rhythmic gymnastics which is a beautiful sport combining gymnastics and dance using the hand apparatus Rope, Hoop, Ball, Clubs and Ribbon. Performed at its highest level, rhythmic gymnastics requires grace, elegance, flexibility, strength, musicality and hand eye co-ordination. The Gymsport & Recreation Centre offers a pathway for competitive rhythmic gymnastics. Gymnasts who show the potential to move through the New Zealand National Levels or International Development Programmes are invited by the RG Head Coach to join the competitive programme. Entry level will depend on a number of factors including age, previous dance or gymnastic experience and co-ordination levels.
Trampoline and Tumbling
Two other disciplines we offer are Trampoline and Tumbling. Competitive Trampoline is exciting and graceful whilst flying through the air with style. Gymnasts train to compete two routines which each consist of 10 different elements containing shape, twisting and somersaults. In the competitive tumbling programme gymnasts learn explosive skills and join these together to compete two passes on a sprung track linking 5 or 8 elements also containing shape, twist and somersaults.
Gym Programs run in-line with New Zealand Primary/Intermediate School Terms. Registrations are open prior to each term beginning on a “first come first served basis. For quality and safety reasons not all enrolments can be accepted so be sure to get in early to secure a space for your child.
